Dog Costumes

As I'm sure you know by now, the Grade 2s will be dressing as dogs for the Christmas concert. This can really be as simple or complex as you like. Students can just wear all of an appropriate colour (ie. brown, black, etc.) and make ears to wear.

I found a few ideas on Pinterest. This is not what costumes HAVE to look like. Just wanted to offer some suggestions for those of you who have asked. Hope this helps...

dog ears, an alternative to party hats, I can just make them Red for clifford, yellow for t-bone, or purple for cleo.:

A Handmade Halloween Costume puppy costume with sweat suit. I would make the spots smaller, use a white sweat suit, and put pink fabric under the ears.

Long Overdue Update...

I can't believe it has been so long since I updated our webpage. I recently started a "Homework" tab and I guess most information has been communicated that way.

Well, it's November already!! Here are a few reminders to get us through the next little while :)

Home Reading
Please continue to read nightly for 20 minutes. Books are changed on Mondays, Wednesdays and Fridays. If you find that your child is not bringing a book home/bringing the same book home every night, you can read from a book you have at your house. I do remind students to double check their books but it is up to them to make sure it gets changed.

Outside Play
Students will be going outside as much as possible throughout the fall and winter months. Please remind them to dress in layers as the weather can change throughout the day. Also, a spare set of clothes in the bottom of book bags might be a good idea now that we are into MUD season!!!

No School
There will be no school on Tuesday, November 2 because of a Professional Development Day.
There will be no school on Wednesday, November 11 for Remembrance Day.

I think that is all. As always, if you have any questions, please email me! :)

Thanksgiving Assembly

We will be reading a poem during our Thanksgiving assembly on Thursday, October 8. Please practice at home:

Thanksgiving Dinner

Take a turkey, stuff it fat,

Some of this and some of that.

Get some turnips, peel them well.

Cook a big squash in it’s shell.

Now potatoes, big and white,

Mash till they are soft and light.

Cranberries, so tart and sweet,

With the turkey we must eat.

Pickles, yes, and then, Oh my!

For a dessert a pumpkin pie,

Golden brown and spicy sweet.

What a fine Thanksgiving treat!

Home Reading

Home reading starts today, Monday, September 21. As discussed on Curriculum Night, we are hoping to simplify this routine as much as possible. Books will be sent home in the front pouch of agendas. Books will be changed on Mondays, Wednesdays and Fridays (if needed). If you would like to record reading/make a note about the book, please do so on the right hand side of the daily agenda.

Class Dojo

We have started Class Dojo as an incentive for making good choices in our classroom. Students seem to really love earning more and more Dojo points. I will be sending home log in information so you can track your child's points from home! :)

Homework This Week

A sheet will be going home today (Tuesday) for students to complete and return by Monday, September 21.

"What's in a name?" will act as an introduction to our Religion unit. Please have your child complete the sheet (with your help if needed). Make sure it is their own printing and that they are able to read what they have written. Students will be asked to present the information on their sheet next week.

This Week

We are still busy settling into our new Grade 2 classroom. I will try to post weekly updates to let you know what we have been working on and what might be coming up next!

In math we are working on Patterning. Students have reviewed repeating patterns so far and we will begin increasing patterns later this week.

Our focus in Language Arts so far has been writing. We are slowly working towards using the Daily 5  for our literacy block. We started Read to Self this week as well.

Much of Health this month will focus on safety. We have been practicing our Fire Drills and learning about Safety at Play.

We will be starting our first Science unit (Air and Water) later this week.
